Speaks approached me to illustrate the album Highrize Jamz for Empty Hand Records. Meticulously crafted over 2 years and featuring a stellar lineup of guests from around the world, including hip hop royalty Wordsworth, triple platinum selling rapper 4-Ize, Chicago’s Pugs Atomz, Phill Most Chill, Uncle Mic Nitro, Krash Slaughta and more. This album has all the hallmarks and feel of a classic and I am honoured to have been a part of it.
Breaking away from saturated digital imagery, the illustration captures what the album stands for - a nostalgic feel from a time before. An homage to the musical influences of the early 90s, pirate radio, and the golden era of hip hop. Hand drawn elements replicate markers and pens bleeding slightly on paper. Bright and unexpected colours joyfully jump out communicating the album’s personality and soul. A unique and fresh visual style, celebrating the joy of music and cutting through the noise to grab our audience in a playful and memorable way.
